FELTON Township was named, after its railway station, in honor of Samuel Morse Felton, by the officers of the Great Northern Railway company. The city of Felton, in sections 27, 28, 33, and 34, was incorporated as a village on March 7, 1901, and separated from the township on October 2, 1922. Some accounts say the village was named for William Felton, state representative from the 41st district in the 15th Minnesota Legislature. The first settlers in 1879 were from Augusta, Wis.; the post office was established that year, with Michael Shea, postmaster; in 1880, eight years after the track was laid through the area, the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad platted the village in section 10, a mile and a half south of the present location; the village moved in 1883, and Flint W. Mills became postmaster in his store.
